OVERVIEW
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are a fundamental infrastructure for economical development and growth. Their adoption is recognized to be a strong factor for social and cultural change and evolution. However, the digital divide between developing countries and developed ones is a strong barrier for ICT adoption and usage. This digital divide concern not only infrastructure limitations (computers, networks, software) but also essential facilities inadequacy for taking full advantages of ICT (language barriers, illiteracy, etc.). Developed countries have a crucial need for ICT experts in companies and public institutions, and ICT usage need to be widely diffused at all levels of the society. Education plays off course a central role in helping the diffusion and the adoption of ICT in schools and universities.
The objective of this workshop is to gather researchers and scholars to discuss and exchange experiences and ideas concerning ICT and information systems education in developing countries. The workshop is organized in the context of the ICIS 2008 conference and is supported by the UNESCO.
